The timber frame raising is the most exciting part of the building process! Watch as we assemble and stand this stunning frame, showcasing the beauty and strength of traditional craftsmanship.
"At Revive Timberworks, located in the Niagara Region, our mission is to seamlessly blend craftsmanship and tradition to create timber frame homes and structures that stand as timeless testaments to quality and beauty. We are dedicated to upholding the rich heritage of timber framing while employing modern techniques to ensure durability and sustainability. Our goal is not just to build structures but to craft spaces that inspire, endure, and become cherished pieces of our clients' lives for generations to come."
Our Team can offer you a customized experience and the opportunity to see your vision come to life. We are passionate about working with you from beginning to end. When you come to us we will help draw out a plan for your timber frame. When you are happy with the design it will be sent to an engineer for approval. From there we begin the building process. Each timber is inspected to ensure your frame has the best possible structural integrity and visual appeal. The timbers are then cut and assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. Once all the members are cut, it is then test-fit in our shop to ensure the frame is correct in all regards. This means the dimensions are as indicated on the drawing and the joints are tight and beautiful. The installation, or raising, of the structure is the culmination of your dreams, the thoughtful design, and skilled craftsmanship.
These stunning oak timber frame trusses have transformed this space into a welcoming and beautiful room for family and friends to gather. This particular project uses a timber frame king post truss design, creating a a feeling of grandeur in the home. Fine details such as the scalloping and pointed octagonal pegs, display the true craftsmanship put into the project.
The lumber was cut from trees off a local wood lot and then milled on site. After the lumber was milled, we moved on to the production side of things. The trusses were laid out using a method called scribing. What this means is that the timbers were laid on top of each other over layout lines that had been marked on the floor. After careful inspection to ensure everything is correct, a plummet, or plumb bob, is used to transfer the layout onto the timbers.
Once everything was marked out on the timbers, they were cut and test fit to confirm accuracy. Following the test fit, everything is disassembled so that it can be properly sanded, stained, and oiled. The stain for this project was carefully selected to match with the customers flooring. Small details like this give a cohesive feel to the home as well as adding warmth to the space.
The raising of these trusses went smoothly and the hard work of careful layout and test fitting paid off. The end result of this project was a warm and welcoming environment that can be enjoyed for many generations.
